Founded in 1975, Refraction Technology originally produced niche products for the land, marine and oil exploration markets. Nearly 10 years later, REF TEK supplied among the fist digital telemetry systems in the nation at University of California, San Diego. Throughout its more than 30-year existence, REF TEK has continued to research and develop tools for the seismological community. More than 3,500 of the company s instruments are being used in a variety of applications, including wide angle reflection and refraction, portable background noise surveys, earthquake aftershock recording, telemetry earthquake monitoring, passive broadband imaging, ocean-bottom seismograph recording and portable earthquake monitoring. Maintained in Dallas, Texas, the company s client portfolio includes Brown University, Boston College, California Institute of Technology and Carnegie Institution.
