Athan Downs Park is a sixteen-acre community park with all types of athletic fields and play areas. The park has built-in grills, picnic tables and public bathrooms. The area also has numerous athletic fields, including areas for basketball, baseball, tennis and more. The park also has large grassy fields that are perfect for playing Frisbee or football.
First opened in 2005, the Dougherty Station Community Center is a 28,500 square foot complex at the intersection of Bollinger Canyon Road and East Branch Parkway.
The Community Center is open Monday through Friday and has several facilities, including conference rooms for small group meetings or business presentations, a professionally outfitted catering kitchen and a large reception and dining hall.
The center is also home to the 90-seat Front Row Theater and the Dougherty Station Library. The library is a joint-use facility serving the public as well as Diablo Valley College and contains computer labs with 40 public computers and free WI-FI Internet access. The library's Community Room as well as the Community Center's conference and dining rooms are available for rent.
Central Park is the largest of San Ramon's multi-feature parks, offering 55 acres of recreation that includes a skateboard park, tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields, a lighted basketball court, a new playground and acres of open parkland with trees, picnic benches and fountains.
It also has a new playground adjacent to the Community Center. Kids can slide down the colorful slides, climb on the rock-climbing wall, and dig in the small sand patch for play fossils remains.
The annual San Ramon Art & Wind Festival takes place at the park each Memorial Day weekend, drawing huge crowds to kite-flying demonstrations, live entertainment, kids' activities, and art and craft booths.
In the summer, it hosts a free concert series. Families can bring blankets and picnic dinners and enjoy bands ranging from jazzy blues to music of the '80s.
It is also home to the San Ramon Community Center, which hosts conferences, classes and the Lindsay Dirkx Brown Gallery.
Forest Home Farms is part of the city of San Ramon Parks and Community Services Department and the San Ramon Historic Foundation.
In 1997 it was donated to the city by Ruth Quayle Boone, wife of Travis Moore Boone, to be used as a municipal historic park. In addition to the Boone home structures, the farm also features the David Glass House, a Victorian Italianate style home built in 1877. The restored Glass House can be toured the second Saturday of every month, from 10am to 2pm. It is also open during special events.
Tours of the historic park take place on the second Saturday of each month and include activities such as washing clothes, making lemonade, farm chores, old-fashioned games, an antique tractor display and a special look at the San Ramon Sheep Coop. Crow Canyon Gardens is owned by the City of San Ramon Park and Recreation Facility. It is operated as a public garden that promotes organic responsibility in a community garden, dedicated to the community's well being through involvement and appreciation of nature. The city encourages everyone to explore the gardens and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
