Originally opened as a film theater back in 1969, Theatre Three has remained a favorite place to attend great productions of classic plays and so much more! The theater, located in the heart of downtown Port Jefferson Village, offers a year-round lineup to appeal to all ages, including family-friendly shows and children's acting classes. Theatre Three also hosts Friday Night Stand Up and conducts an annual Festival Of One Act Plays with submissions entered by local writers. But perhaps the biggest, most memorable tradition is the community-infused adaptation of A Christmas Carol.
The Harbor View Nursery School is a parent cooperative nursing school open to pre-schoolers aged 3 and 4-years-old. The cooperative environment encourages parents to be involved with the classroom to become a part of the success of their child's education and development. Teachers are state-certified. The school has indoor classrooms and an outdoor playground.
The Port Jefferson Fire Department is responsible for the fire safety and emergency rescue operations of the Village of Port Jefferson and the Village of Belle Terre. The area they protect encompasses about 4 square miles and almost 9,000 individuals. Besides area residences they also service the National Grid Power Station, the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry Co., 2 hospitals, 4 schools, health-care facilities, a LIRR station, a very popular harbor, beach and wetland area that hosts a large number of recreational and commercial marine vessels, tourists and many other facilities and businesses.
In addition to five companies the Port Jefferson Fire Department also has a ladies auxiliary and a junior fire department.
